There was some exciting news today as Lee County approved Verdana Village unanimously. Verdana Village is the newest community to be developed by Cameratta Companies on Corkscrew Road in Estero. I will include 2,400 single-family homes on approximately 2,100 acres on the south side of Corkscrew just east of Old Corkscrew Golf Course. The approval from Lee County Commissioners came quickly in a meeting that lasted under 10 minutes. The community will also include 100,000 square feet of commercial property which show ease some of the traffic on Corkscrew Road from new communities that only have options to the west for shopping. It has not been determined yet with establishments will be included on the Verdana Village commercial property.

Cameratta’s focus on environmental issues and it’s favorable outcome of how it handled “The Place at Corkscrew” development was given the credit for the quick and easy approval. When Cameratta Companies sought to develop The Place, nearly across the street from where Verdana Village will be, they met considerable opposition over wildlife and environmental concerns initially. However, The Place is more than halfway complete now and Cameratta has proven good on their word to support and enhance the natural environment around the development. According to News-Press, “The homes at Verdana will be built in the Density Reduction/Groundwater Resource area of southeast Lee County. Other housing and mining developments proposed for the area had faced bitter opposition from environmentalists and others.” The Cameratta Companies plan to purposefully focus on restoring historic water flows that were disrupted by past farming interests. They will build the development around natural wetlands so they are not disturbed in any way.
